  6. Jeremy is wrong. The whole “sagging pants” thing is due to the fact that prisons take away belts, so inmates cant hang themselves. So their ill-fitting pants fall down. These little “gangsta” wanna be’s looked up to their older brothers in the penn, and started “saggin” their pants as well. Funny thing is, they usually wear a belt. Lame-asses..

  7. actually Jeremy is absolutely 100% right http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/257484/sagging_pants_hip_hop_trend_or_prison.html

  8. I am a 20 year veteran of the Florida dept of corrections, and have spent 5 years as an inspector (the person who investigates crimes committed in a prison) I can tell you that YES, the sagging pants did originate in the prison system, and YES it does mean you are looking to get pounded. I have had this confirmed by many inmates.

    Also as far as taking belts away that is not true (here at least), every prisoner must be in full uniform at the morning count.(shirt, undershirt,trousers, belt, socks and shoes). only inmates who lose belts and shoelaces are person in solitary confinement, psych wards, and death row in some cases.
    Now every state prison system does vary some, so I can only attest to the way it is done in florida.

  9. ChadWal, I’m not sure why, but your post made me feel cheery somehow.

    I liked the premise of the lumberjack story, but it felt laboured in its delivery; like I really had to work to enjoy it. I’m certain it can be re-worded to make it more streamlined. 7/10.

    @ChadWal

    I like it when urban myths turn out to be true. We’ve made up stories to try to understand the world, and it’s nice when it turns out that our understanding of the world is correct.
