A “mollywhop” is a beatdown. A co-worker of mine used to work at the Dept. of Corrections….she said that when inmates would act up, they would have to “mollywhop” them…throwing them against the wall or floor and taking hold of their arm and holding it behind their backs. I guess similar to what you see police do to subdue someone.
This is the first time I’ve ever even typed “mollywhop” and I’m so excited! As the official black person in the room I can confirm that katieoh is correct! But I don’t think anyone besides these two have used the word since like 10 years ago.
‘Mollywhoppin’ also known as “Mollywhopped” is a term that originated back in 1984, during the Sixteen Candles era’. It is slang for ‘Giving someone a Beating’ Or ‘A Ringing’. Originally it was used…’I'm gonna give you a Molly Ringwald’, which meant to ring someone out as you do to a Mop(Used for cleaning) During the late 80′s early 90′s it was shortened to ‘Molly Whop’ which can be used in various ways. Hope this clears up any confusion.
