I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, bidstag. c 0m

I don't think it's odd.
I don't think they should have posted it on facebook though.
A lot of older people don't have many pictures made, and that's the last time those people are going to see her.

Although, I wouldn't advice taking a picture after death, I would much rather have the memory of her alive.

Also, the picture with her, could be a lost child. Maybe it died in birth? And she probably wanted to be buried with it. Many people near death plan their own funerals.

This work of Jay Ruby offers some Anthropological perspective/context:

http://people.virginia.edu/~ds8s/jay/jay.html

"Secure the Shadow is an exploration of the photographic representation of death in the United States from1840 to the present. It focuses upon the ways in which people have taken and used photographs of deceased loved ones and their funerals to mitigate the finality of death...

Photography's amazing popularity for the last century and a half is undoubtedly due to its capacity to help us remember people, places and events. It provides a witness - one thought to be impeachable and permanent. Life is commemorated through photographs, why not death?
A logical question, perhaps, but one that makes many twentieth century Americans uncomfortable. Sometimes thought to be a bizarre Victorian custom, photographing corpses has been and continues to be an important, if not common, occurrence in American life."

@ gaijin - in a coffin? She's died twice? Nana was Jesus? Most likely one of the kiddies who didn't make it way back when.

This was a kinda average entry but the replies and banter on lamebook made it gold. Sheer feckin genius.

So, two necrophiliacs are walking past a cemetery - one says to the other "Hey - wanna pop in for a cold one?"

I would say folks should try not to be so ethnocentric, but I realize most of you probably don't even know what that means, so let me break it down.

Different people deal with death in different ways. In many cultures, it is quite common to photograph funerals and the dead. I imagine it has been this way since the early days of modern photography, when people realized they had a quick and lasting way to capture the last moments of their loved ones' bodies. It's not necessarily trashy, just one way of doing things. I, myself, was not raised with this tradition. I probably wouldn't do it myself. But I know photos were taken of my mother-in-law in her casket.

What's the value in being so judgmental?

I just saw this and I have not even read the comments and I am not going to. But I have a picture of my daughter in her casket on facebook! Most of my friends have lost children and most are my family. If they do not like it then they do not have to look. I put it there for me and for my family. I do not have a problem with this!! It is personal and private. Facebook is usually private and only for friends and families. If my friends or families had a problem with this then they could delete themselves. I dont care.

Off my soap box now, this one just struck a cord in me!!

There is a photo in the second picture... and I bet there is a photo in that picture as well.... Kinda looks like a window into the past. I might have to tell my family to start that tradition... looks cool.

I don't see what the big deal is... & what does NSFW stand for?

#61 Bruce: "I see dead ppl...Like everyone else on facebook" you win, hilarious...

If you're christian and you think she's in heaven what's the big deal, her soul is gone, it's just a body and if you're atheist then really what's the big deal.
I can't believe ppl get so jacked the fuck up at other ppl's comments. It's a picture, It's facebook/lamebook, it's funny...
